Colorado has a successful and growing wine industry featuring over 150 licensed wineries and counting. If you’re planning on travelling through the state and you have a taste for wine, you certainly owe it to yourself to sample some of the many offerings available to you.
Some of the wineries in the state are among the highest altitude vineyards in the world, as the Colorado regions hospitable for growing grapes are all located fairly high up, and that brings some unique changes to the final product. More frequent temperature changes and exposure to direct sunlight often makes for tougher grapes with thicker skin, giving the wine a more pronounced color and tannin structure. Cooler night temperatures also help the wine retain its acidity, which helps to create some age-worthy, elegant wines that you don’t want to miss.

On Saturday, November 27th, Estes Park is having its Holiday Wine Festival, and there are going to be more than 100 different varietals ready and waiting for you.
What to Expect at the Annual Estes Park Holiday Wine Festival
The event will be fairly large, but certainly not overpacked. Tickets will be limited to 500 total, meaning that you’ll have a fair amount of elbow room available while you enjoy your samples. If, by chance, the event doesn’t sell out, they’ll be offering tickets to non-drinkers and children 6 and over for $5.00, but don’t count on there being extra availability. Children 5 and under, however, are allowed free admission, with the legal guardian of course.
Your general admission ticket, which costs $25.00 during the presale, will get you access to quite a few things. A wine glass will be given over to you upon entry for you to carry around to all of the sample booths around the convention, along with a wine tote for you to carry any bottles you decide to purchase during your time at the festival. There are no drink tickets or limits to the number of tastings you can participate in either, so enjoy your time responsibly.
There will also be a handful of other activities for you to partake in between tastings. You and the family will be able to take a picture with Santa next to the Christmas tree that they’ll have set up, along with a handful of other activities the kids will enjoy. Don’t worry about going hungry during your visit, either, as there will be multiple different vendors offering up food for you to enjoy, and maybe even pair it with the perfect wine. Of course, being that it’s the holiday season, there will also be a few gift vendors there, so maybe you can get some of that gift shopping done while you’re at it!
