Lily Mountain Trail

HomeEstes Park AttractionsLily Mountain Trail

Known as the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park, Estes Park is surrounded by beautiful terrain and a vast network of trails. Get out and enjoy the great outdoors with a getaway to Estes Park, where access to trails such as Lily Mountain Trail is just a short drive away.

Considered a moderate hike, Lily Mountain Trailhead is four miles round trip and offers 1180 feet of elevation gain. It starts out by tracing the ridgeline above the highway before the ascent of the mountain begins. Much of the trail passes through evergreen forest, providing plenty of shade cover on sunny days and picturesque views. While this is rated a moderate trail, hikers should keep the high altitude and significant elevation change in mind when preparing for this hike. Most of the trail is straightforward and easy to follow, although uphill. Once you’re near the peak, there is some rock scrambling involved as well as some exposure to steep drop-offs. It will take some effort to reach the summit and when you do, the reward is a spectacular panoramic view of Mount Meeker, Longs Peak, the mountains along the Continental Divide and in the Mummy Range, Estes Cone, and Twin Sisters Peak. Take caution reversing the rock scramble on the way down before retracing the trail back to the start.
