Estes Park Aerial Tramway

HomeEstes Park AttractionsEstes Park Aerial Tramway

One of Estes Park’s most iconic and popular attractions, the Estes Park Aerial Tramway has delighted thousands of passengers with magnificent views as far as the eye can see since its inception in 1955. Designed by renowned tramway engineer Robert Heron, the lift has withstood the test of time for more than six decades. Furthermore, Mr. Heron became a pioneer in the industry which is one of Colorado’s most beloved pastimes, the design of the modern-day ski lift and the subsequent growth of the vacation resorts throughout the Centennial State. In fact, the Estes Park Aerial Tramway is still managed and owned by the Heron Family.

All Aboard the Estes Park Aerial Tramway

Upon arrival at the Estes Park tram, remember that the dates in which it is open range from mid to late-May until the end of September. Given that these dates usually coincide with the late summer months, visitors will not often get the chance to go skiing or snowboarding once they reach the top of the Prospect Mountain summit. Nevertheless, the approximately five minute, leisurely ride to the top is one of the reasons why the tramway is considered one of the best in the state. It is a superb attraction for all ages. However, since the trams themselves are quite small, don’t expect to fit the whole clan in one!

At the Top

Once you experience the majesty of the Rocky Mountains from a bird’s eye perspective at the top of Prospect Mountain, there is a small coffee shop and gift store. Both shops provide a nice moment to relax and enjoy a beverage while experiencing the breathtaking views. Additionally, visitors can wander around the top of the mountain in search of wildlife and more adventures. If you are traveling with children in tow, don’t forget to pack a bag of peanuts or other snacks for the chance to feed a few friendly squirrels which have lost their fear of humans over the generations.

Know Before You Go

Since the Estes Park Aerial Tramway is one of the top five things to do while visiting Estes Park, naturally things can become quite crowded. From the parking lot to the lines waiting to board, when the weather is right, it seems as if everyone in the state is here. Therefore, the best times to visit are early in the morning or towards the end of the day.
