1. Air Conditioning: Stay Cool in the Colorado Heat

While Estes Park is known for its crisp mountain air and cooler temperatures, summer months can bring warmer weather to the region. After a long day of hiking, sightseeing, or exploring the nearby attractions, there’s nothing better than returning to a home away from home that is refreshingly cool. That’s where air conditioning comes in.

Though Estes Park’s mountain climate can be cool and pleasant, during the summer, temperatures can climb, especially during the afternoon. Having air conditioning in your vacation rental ensures that no matter the temperature outside, your indoor space will always provide the comfort you need to rest and recharge. Whether you’re lounging in the living room or unwinding in your bedroom, a comfortable, cool environment will make all the difference.

Many vacation homes and rentals in Estes Park now come equipped with modern air conditioning systems that allow you to control the temperature to your exact preferences. After a day spent exploring the great outdoors, retreating to a cool, air-conditioned home is the perfect way to relax and unwind. Additionally, the ability to cool your space on demand means you won’t have to rely on natural ventilation alone, ensuring a restful sleep even on the warmer nights.

2. Gym Access: Stay Active While on Estes Park Vacation

One of the best ways to unwind on vacation is through physical activity, and having access to a gym during your Estes Park stay can help you maintain your fitness routine or simply enjoy some stress-relieving exercise. Whether you prefer cardio, strength training, or stretching, a well-equipped gym can be an essential amenity for those who want to keep active while traveling.

Many vacation rentals, cabins, and luxury homes in Estes Park now offer on-site gyms, allowing guests to easily access exercise equipment without leaving their rental property. Whether it’s a small fitness space with free weights and a treadmill or a more expansive gym with a variety of equipment, having gym access on-site adds a layer of convenience and luxury to your vacation. It’s also an opportunity to maintain your regular workout schedule, even when you’re away from home.

If you’re someone who enjoys yoga, some properties may even provide additional amenities such as yoga mats or dedicated spaces for meditation. Having these options available makes it easy to get a great workout while surrounded by the peaceful atmosphere of the mountains. After all, there’s no better way to start or end your day than with a calming stretch or a cardio session before you head out to explore the natural wonders of Estes Park.

Additionally, for those staying in properties without a gym, some vacation rentals offer passes or discounted access to nearby fitness centers or health clubs, ensuring that guests have a variety of options for staying active during their stay.

3. Heated Bathroom Floors: A Touch of Luxury for Every Step

After a day of hiking through the stunning Rocky Mountains or strolling through the charming streets of Estes Park, there’s nothing quite like retreating to the comfort of your vacation home and enjoying the little luxuries that make the experience special. One such luxury is heated bathroom floors—a simple yet incredibly indulgent amenity that elevates the entire vacation experience.

Imagine stepping out of a warm shower or bath, only to be greeted by the soothing warmth of heated floors beneath your feet. It’s a small detail, but it can make a significant difference, especially during the colder months. Estes Park’s temperatures can dip low, particularly in the evening and winter months, and heated bathroom floors provide the perfect remedy to keep you warm and cozy after a day of outdoor adventures.

This amenity brings a spa-like experience right into your vacation rental, providing an extra layer of comfort and warmth that will make every morning and evening feel special. Whether you’re preparing for a day in the mountains or winding down after a long day, the luxury of heated floors is an amenity you’ll never want to go without again.

4. Outdoor Fireplaces: Cozy Up Under the Stars

What could be better than spending a cool evening in Estes Park gathered around an outdoor fireplace, enjoying the company of friends and family while gazing at the stars? Outdoor fireplaces are one of the most popular amenities for vacation rentals in Estes Park, and it’s easy to see why.

An outdoor fireplace allows you to enjoy the crisp mountain air while staying warm and cozy, making it the perfect spot for evening relaxation or socializing. Whether you’re roasting marshmallows, telling stories, or simply soaking in the natural beauty of the Colorado wilderness, a fireplace is an excellent way to add a special touch to your vacation.

This amenity is perfect for those who love to spend time outdoors, especially during the cooler nights in Estes Park. You can gather around the fire, sip a warm drink, and enjoy the peace and quiet of the mountains while creating lasting memories with loved ones. Some properties even offer fireplaces with seating areas, allowing you to comfortably relax and unwind.

Additionally, fireplaces are a great way to add a little luxury to your outdoor experience, making your vacation feel like a true getaway. It’s the perfect way to embrace the natural beauty of Estes Park, even as the evening temperatures dip, and the stars come out in full view.

5. Rain-Head Showers: Refresh and Recharge After Adventure

After a day of hiking, biking, or exploring the outdoors, there’s nothing more refreshing than a long, luxurious shower. For an added touch of indulgence, rain-head showers are an amenity that can take your post-adventure relaxation to the next level. These showers, designed to mimic the feeling of natural rainfall, offer an invigorating and soothing experience that leaves you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

Rain-head showers provide a spacious, gentle cascade of water that envelops your body, making you feel as though you’re standing under a waterfall in the heart of nature. Whether you’re washing off the dust from a mountain hike or simply relaxing after a busy day, the calming and refreshing nature of a rain-head shower will elevate your vacation experience.

In Estes Park, many high-end Estes Park rental properties offer these luxurious showers, ensuring that every part of your stay is filled with comfort and indulgence. From the moment you step into a rain-head shower, you’ll experience a true sense of luxury and relaxation—perfect for unwinding after a day spent exploring the incredible natural beauty of the area. It’s an amenity that’s not just practical but also a treat for the senses, providing a spa-like experience that you’ll appreciate with every use.

Most pet-friendly restaurants and bars offer outdoor seating, allowing you to enjoy the fresh fall air while dining with your dog. These spaces are often designed to accommodate pets comfortably, with water bowls available and sometimes even special treats for your furry friend.

Tips for Dining Outdoors:

Treats and Specials

Some pet-friendly restaurants and bars go the extra mile by offering special menu items for dogs. From dog-friendly treats to meals made with pet-safe ingredients, these establishments often have something delightful for your furry friend to enjoy while you indulge in your own meal.

Socializing with Other Pet Owners

Dining at pet-friendly restaurants and bars provides a wonderful opportunity for socializing—not just with your dog but with other pet owners as well. Many establishments become informal gathering spots for pet lovers, allowing for interactions and conversations that can lead to new friendships.

Scenic Walks and Picnics

If hiking isn’t your thing, consider taking leisurely walks in the cooler fall weather. Find a picturesque spot to set up a picnic with your pet. Bring along a blanket, some snacks for yourself, and a few treats for your furry friend. This is a great way to relax and enjoy each other’s company in a beautiful setting.

Make sure to bring plenty of water for both you and your pet. Dogs can easily get dehydrated, especially after playing outside.

Pack treats specifically made for pets. Avoid giving them human food that might upset their stomach or be toxic to them, such as grapes, chocolate, or onions.

Fall Festivals and Events

Many communities host fall festivals and events that welcome pets. While exploring local festivities, look for pet-friendly activities that allow your furry friend to join in the fun. These events often include costume contests, pet parades, and opportunities to socialize with other pet owners.

Tips for Enjoying Festivals with Pets:

Enjoying Fall Foliage

One of the most beautiful aspects of fall is the stunning foliage. Taking leisurely drives or walks to enjoy the vibrant colors can be a fantastic experience for both you and your pet. Dogs often enjoy the different scents and sights of the season, making it a stimulating and enjoyable outing.

Photography Tips for Snapping Memories with Pets

Capture the beauty of fall by taking photos of your pet surrounded by the colorful leaves. Here are some tips to get the best shots: Take advantage of natural light during golden hour—early morning or late afternoon—to enhance the colors in your photos.

To capture your pet’s perspective, try getting down to their level. This can create more intimate and engaging shots. Use the natural surroundings to frame your shots. Include the vibrant leaves, trees, or distant mountains to enhance the background.

Cozy Indoor Activities

While fall offers plenty of outdoor dog-friendly places in Estes Park to enjoy, there may be days when the weather isn’t ideal. Having a few cozy indoor activities in your back pocket can keep your pet entertained while also strengthening your bond.

Movie Nights

Create a cozy movie night at home with your furry friend. Choose pet-themed movies or heartwarming films that you can enjoy together. Prepare some popcorn for yourself (without butter or salt) and a special treat for your pet.

Training and Tricks

Fall is also an excellent time to focus on training and teaching new tricks. Spend some time indoors working on obedience training or learning fun tricks. This not only keeps your pet mentally stimulated but also strengthens your bond.

Training Tips:

Safety First

As you enjoy the beautiful fall season with your furry friend, it’s essential to prioritize their safety. Here are some general safety tips to keep in mind:

Weather Considerations

The fall weather can be unpredictable. Be sure to monitor the temperature and adjust your plans accordingly. If it gets too cold, limit your pet’s time outdoors, especially if they have short fur or are small breeds.

Wildlife Awareness

Fall can bring increased wildlife activity. Keep your pet on a leash and be vigilant to avoid any encounters with wild animals. If you encounter wildlife on your adventures, calmly redirect your pet away from the situation.

Be Aware of Seasonal Hazards

Autumn brings its own set of potential hazards for pets:

The Importance of Identification

As you venture out during the fall season, it’s crucial to ensure your pet is easily identifiable. Whether you’re hiking, attending festivals, or enjoying a leisurely walk, make sure your furry friend has proper identification.

Spring brings the warm weather and opportunities to head outdoors that those who have spent the winter cooped up have been dreaming of. This year, elevate your spring emergence with a well-deserved trip to scenic Estes Park. While this is a vacation destination to enjoy year-round, spring comes with some one-of-a-kind fun you won’t want to miss out on. The following are a few of the top spring events in Colorado to make sure you enjoy when you’re heading to Estes Park.

Take Part in the Annual Bigfoot Days Experience

Every April, locals and visitors of Estes Park alike look forward to the arrival of Bigfoot Days with good reason. In 2024, the event is slated to run from April 19 through April 20, and it’s bound to be a celebration with a focus on all things Sasquatch. The first night of the event typically kicks off with a fun community BBQ followed by free outdoor entertainment on the second day. In years past, Bigfoot Days have included Bigfoot expert speakers, live musical entertainment, themed activities, fantastic food vendors, and Bigfoot calling contests too. From the Bigfoot tours to the costumes, you’ll find there’s something for everyone in your traveling crew to enjoy at this event in the springtime.

Enjoy the Local Duck Race Festival

Celebrating spring in Estes Park was never more fun than when you make the most of the annual Duck Race Festival. This welcoming event is scheduled for May 4, 2024, and beyond the competition, the event includes live music and plenty of good food to top it all off too. Participants are invited to adopt a rubber duck that they’ll race down the Fall River. The proceeds from the event go towards Estes Park charitable organizations with duck adoptions starting at $25 each. The event includes a Duck Waddle 5K as well as a duck drop that’s sure to inspire. There are prizes given out to duck winners and afterward, kids can enjoy face painting and ceramic painting at Riverside Plaza. Games, drum groups, and dance performances are all a part of this community event for a good cause as well.

Learn More About Rocky Mountain Conservation

For spring travelers who are interested in learning more about Rocky Mountain conservation, the April speaker series hosted by the Rocky Mountain Conservancy in Estes Park is a must. Hosted on April 7 and April 21, this speaker series invites Rocky Mountain National Park staff and experts to come and speak to the community regarding a wide range of local topics. All of the speakers will be presenting in the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center auditorium. There’s no cost to attend, but signing up in advance is recommended.

Infuse Fun at Rock Cut Brewing

When you’re looking forward to infusing some fantastic flavor and fun into your Estes Park getaway this spring, make sure to set aside time to enjoy Rock Cut Brewing. This is a wonderfully inviting place to grab a drink with family and friends any time you’re in town but throughout the week, they host special events that only add to the entertainment value of your stay. On Sunday nights from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, guests can stop by Rock Cut Brewing for a game of bingo that’s suitable for all ages. There’s no cost to enjoy the game, just the fun and thrill of potentially winning! If you drop by Rock Cut Brewing on a Tuesday night between 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm, you’ll be right on time to enjoy weekly trivia. The categories are vast and varied and there are typically audio and picture rounds built into the experience.

Make Your Spring Getaway Magical

Don’t let your spring trip to Estes Park pass you by without enjoying a magic show at the historic Stanley Hotel while you’re in town. The hotel’s subterranean theater regularly hosts Master Magician Aiden Sinclair. The performance is mind-bending and immersive, giving audiences reasons to question the laws of physics. Don’t be surprised if you end up booking a ticket for a second show during your stay.

Enjoy the Opening of Trail Ridge Road

Estes Park is a place with landscapes designed by nature to inspire. A great route to take it all in during a stay is to travel Trail Ridge Road. This has earned the title as the highest continuous paved road in the country, and it climbs up to no less than 12,183 feet. It also crosses the Continental Divide through Rocky Mountain National Park. The dramatic elevation of this incredible road has it closing in the wintertime. However, Memorial Day weekend in the spring marks the opening of the road from exclusively a snowshoeing or ski route to one that’s open to bikes and vehicles once more. It’s an opportunity to make the most of the views and be one of the first to explore the road since it closed at the beginning of winter.

There is energy and enthusiasm about new beginnings, as flowers start to blossom and lush leaves start making their appearance. For one such magical destination, we can suggest the scenic town of Estes Park: here is our Estes Park guide to spring in the area.

Your Spring Stay Starts Here!

Exploring the Great Outdoors in Estes Park

Situated at the base of the Rocky Mountain National Park, the northern Colorado town of Estes Park has plenty of outdoor activities and attractions suitable for all age groups. It is a family-friendly mountain destination where you can participate in plenty of adventures in the springtime. The area will be carpeted with colorful wildflowers and fresh green leaves that welcome you to appreciate the natural beauty. You can also expect pleasant weather, with average temperatures between the 50s and 60s, allowing you to step outside with a light jacket.

Rocky Mountain National Park is home to a dense network of hiking trails offering scenic viewpoints of the area. You’ll find plenty of trails suitable for beginners, moderate hikers, and experts, turning it into a versatile outdoor destination for the entire family. You can also participate in biking, photography, wildlife and bird watching, picnicking, and so much more. Besides spending time at the National Park, you can explore the various attractions within Estes Park. The downtown area is a vibrant spot with plenty of stores, art galleries, restaurants, cafes, and many historic sites.

A 7-Day Itinerary to the Gorgeous Estes Park

Estes Park is clearly one of the favorite spring destinations for those who appreciate outdoor beauty. You can easily plan a seven-day vacation involving a variety of activities and attractions. As the Rocky Mountain National Park is a huge park, you would need around two to three days to explore the park itself, followed by around three days to explore the town of Estes Park.

Day 1

Start the adventure by heading to the mighty Rocky Mountain National Park. As the park has so much to explore, you can start your trip on an energetic note while accomplishing everything you planned for the park. The later part of the trip can be used for spending a relaxing time in the downtown area and exploring the lakes and rivers in the town.

There are more than 355 hiking trails all around the park. The park spans over 265,000 acres, making it one of the largest parks and definitely one of the busiest with lots to do. There are four visitor centers in the park. Depending on your entrance spot, you can stop at the closest one to learn about the different trails, must-visit attractions, and to plan your adventure.

If you’d like to cover easy and family-friendly trails on your first day, you can check out the Bear Lake Loop surrounding the gorgeous lake. The lake is a wonderful spot to admire the view, capture pictures, and also enjoy a picnic before proceeding ahead. Some of the other easy hikes include the Lily Lake Loop and the Alluvial Fan.

Depending on the time and energy level, you may like to explore longer trails at the Loch and the Alpine Ridge Trails. You can also check out waterfalls such as Adam Falls and Alberta Falls. One key point to remember is that the park does not offer any restaurants or food joints within the premises. You can purchase a few snack items and bottled water at the visitor center. The ideal option would be to pack a picnic lunch from downtown Estes Park before heading to the park.

Day 2

Besides hiking trails, there are many scenic routes within the Rocky Mountain National Park. It is one of the best ways to cover the park while you admire the mighty mountain ranges and alpine trees. Along the way, you can capture many photographs and also spot wild animals such as elk, moose, bears, deer, bighorn sheep, and coyotes. One of the most scenic roads is the Trail Ridge Road, which covers around 48 miles connecting Estes Park to Grand Lake. At the highest point at the end of the road, you’ll get an opportunity to admire the panoramic views of the trees, mountains, and lakes. The Old Fall River Road is another scenic route within the park that cuts through pine forests, waterfalls, and gorgeous mountain ranges.

After checking out the scenic routes, you can head to the gorgeous lakes within the park. There are many freshwater natural lakes where you can enjoy a picnic, capture photos, and take breathtaking views of the thick cover of trees. For accessible lakes, you can head to Bear Lake, Lily Lake, and Sprague Lake. Swimming is allowed in all the lakes except Bear Lake. You can rent a kayak or a paddle boat to add a fun element to your experience. To relish a pizza after reaching your accommodation, you can check out options offered by Antonia’s Real New York Pizza.

Day 3

After getting a general idea of the park on hiking trails and scenic roads, you can take the fun to the next level by participating in horseback riding and fishing. There are many stables within and outside the park that offer guided horseback riding courses. It is one of the best ways to explore the park for the entire family. You can contact the Glacier Creek Stables to understand the different riding options.

You can enjoy fly fishing in the spring in Estes Park. One of the spots perfect for fishing closest to the entrance is Sprague Lake, where you can find mountain trout. For rainbow and brown trout, you can head to Big Thompson River. Some of the other fishing spots include Loch Lake and Dream Lake. You’ll find many fishing stores inside and outside the park to rent fishing gear and equipment. The Estes Park Mountain shop offers all the necessary fishing gear. You can also opt for a guided fishing tour to learn the skills of an expert in the region.

Day 4

You can reserve an entire day to explore the attractive downtown area of Estes Park. Walk along the beautiful Estes Park riverwalk that runs along the Fall River and takes you to the downtown attractions. You can stop by the Estes Park visitor center to grab maps and to understand the must-visit spots in the area. The downtown area has many local boutiques, ice cream and candy stores, casual diners, fine-dining restaurants, and iconic buildings. Be sure to snap a picture of the Historic Park Theater, standing tall as one of the oldest structures in the area.

For shopping souvenirs and gifts, you can visit the Water Wheel Gift Corner. Savor delicious candies and soda at the Rocket Fizz and The Taffy Shop. To satisfy your hungry stomach and taste buds, you can find restaurants like the Big Horn Restaurant, Himalayan Curry and Kebob, Seasoned- An American Bistro, and many other spots. To finish your meal with a dessert, you can visit the popular Donut Haus or the Cinnamon Bakery. A peaceful stroll along the riverwalk while dining, shopping, and simply admiring the town is one of the best ways to spend an entire day.

Day 5

To start your day with a big cup of coffee, we recommend heading to Coffee on the Rocks. They offer a wide range of espresso and regular coffee drinks in addition to many breakfast items. If you’d like to grab a hearty breakfast before starting your adventures, you can visit the Egg of Estes, offering a wide menu of sandwiches, egg items, pancakes, waffles, coffee, and much more.

After spending time in the downtown area on the previous day, you can participate in a fun activity like mountain climbing. There are both indoor and outdoor spots for this activity suitable for all levels. Check out the Kent Mountain Adventure Center. For an indoor location, you can explore the options offered at the Estes Park Indoor Climbing Gym.

Participate in fun outdoor adventures at the Open Air Adventure Park, located at Estes Park. It houses more than 32 aerial challenges including zip lining, rope walking, climbing, and other adventures suitable for the entire family. You can also enjoy axe-throwing options. If you’d like to opt for a sunset kayak tour with a guide, you can ask the team at the park.

Day 6

Stay local and enjoy the day exploring the local trails such as Fish Creek Trail and Kruger Rock. The Fish Creek Trail features a few ponds along the way and is relatively easy for hiking with kids. At Kruger Rock, you can admire the views from elevated spots. To grab a quick lunch, you can head to Mountain Home Cafe, Scratch Deli and Baker, or Boss Burgers and Gyro before heading to Lake Estes. You’ll find a well-paved trail surrounding Lake Estes that is perfect for a relaxing stroll.

For the next adventure, you can plan a visit to the Mustang Mountain coaster for fun roller coaster rides cutting through mountains. This outdoor adventure is suitable for kids above 3 years of age and offers a fun way to explore the mighty Colorado mountain ranges.

Day 7

Get ready to ride the waves of the Colorado River on a fun whitewater rafting adventure. There are many private companies that offer guided ride options for the entire family. You can ride the different rapids, admire waterfalls, and find quiet spots to see deer, eagles, and other wildlife. Check out the options offered by Rapid Transit Rafting, located at Estes Park. Mountain Whitewater and A Wanderlust Adventure are other companies offering fun rides.

To end the trip with a hearty meal while enjoying a fine-dining experience, we can recommend the Twins Owl Steakhouse, The View Restaurant at the Historic Crags Lodge, or the Cascades Restaurant at the Stanley Hotel.

Stay at a Perfect Second Home

With so many exciting options for the entire family, a trip to Estes Park is definitely worth planning. For your accommodation requirements, you can pick a fully furnished and luxurious vacation rental with us at the Mountain Village at Lake Estes. Our rentals are suitable for both small and big groups and offer a long list of amenities that can ensure a smooth flow to your routine. Located right in the center of the city, you can walk and explore the surrounding area for restaurants and shops. By staying in the downtown area, you can be within a short distance from all the basic necessities.

Our rentals include multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, a large and welcoming living room, a functional kitchen, a dedicated dining area, and a huge outdoor area. The open floor design can allow a smooth flow between the different spaces, allowing you and your guests to seek privacy and togetherness as you desire. We offer many electronic appliances to help you with your stay. After staying outdoors, you can come home to a welcoming couch in the living room, tune into the flat-screen television, and start a movie or show. All the cabins offer complimentary internet access in all the rooms. As the spring in Estes Park, it may get chilly in the morning and evening, you can take advantage of centralized heating.

The indoor and outdoor fireplaces add a warm and charming touch to your holidays. The fully equipped kitchen is another key highlight as you can prepare your meals before stepping out. Though you’ll find many restaurants in the downtown area, you may not appreciate the idea of dining out for every single meal. As Rocky Mountain State Park does not have any dining options within the park, you can pack a picnic lunch from home before heading out. This can save unnecessary commuting time to drive all the way out of the park in the middle of the day. Find a wide range of pots, pans, cutlery, spoons, knives, utensils, plates, mugs, and much more for your convenience. You can also find full-size appliances that make it easy to cook, store, and clean the kitchen just like back home.

Enjoy comfy and cozy bedrooms with premium bedding and full-size beds along with full bathrooms, cabinets, and other basic essentials. The bathrooms are complete with a walk-in shower, bathtubs, fresh towels, vanity, sinks, and personal care products. Outdoor fun equals a lot of laundry. You won’t need to search for a laundromat or worry about your clothes, as we offer an in-unit washer and dryer right inside the house.
